I have no words to describe how phenomenal this book is. Declan and Sydney fell in love at a young age and knew they had found ‘the one’. Unfortunately, when a huge family secret caused Dec to end things with Sydney in the most hurtful way, both of their hearts were broken. When his dad dies and has a stipulation that all brothers spend six months on the ranch they vowed to never step foot on again, they can’t stay away from each other.
Declan was a broken man. He walked away from the love of his life, thinking he was doing the right thing. He acted as though he didn’t deserve or want a family/happiness, even though he did. Once he realizes that he still loves her and doesn’t want to lose her, he finally tells her the truth of his past. But Syd has secrets of her own. When she tells him the news, he needs time to process everything. Will he be able to prove his love in time?
Even though Syd gives Dec every chance to acknowledge he wants her, even asking him to chase her, he pushes her away. So she gives him one last chance. She tells him to be at a doctor’s appointment or she will know it is truly over. Unfortunately, circumstances (his grand gesture) and traffic make him late to the appointment. Just when she believed they could have it all, life throws a huge curveball.
The story was heartbreaking; I cried, laughed and held my breath multiple times while reading this book. Declan proved to be a softie, but it took awhile to get there. I didn’t think I would like a book in this series more than the first, but this book blew me away.
