I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the sinful grin spreading across his face. I also didn’t have an argument for that smug remark, so I walked toward the huge rock slabs at the edge of the shore and sat down. Water splashed against them, sending mist into the air and across my face. Wrapping my arms around myself, I listened to each wave crash against the large stones.
A loud cackle grabbed my attention, and I glimpsed over my shoulder. Flames flickered into the dark sky as the fire really hit its peak. Flashing that damn cocky smirk of his, he plopped down next to me.
I rested my head on his shoulder before tapping his chest. “I’m not going to stroke your ego, so you can stop waggling your eyebrows in demand that I do.”
Trey howled with laughter. “What if I want you to stroke something else?”
I brushed my fingers along the bulge of his jeans, noting how hard he already was without me touching him. When I went to fiddle with his zipper, he released an unsteady breath and locked our hands together. A salacious grin fell from my lips. “Careful what you wish for. I think I’ve proven I’m comfortable having sex anywhere.”
“That you have, babe. It’s an incredible turn-on too. I hope it’s okay we came here. I thought about getting tickets to a show in the city or taking you to a museum, but as selfish as it sounds, I really wanted to be somewhere that allowed us to turn off our minds for a while and The Point is always a good place to take a break from reality.”
“Coming here was the perfect plan. I’ve had my fill of people for the day. The universe finally gave us a break for once.”
“What do you mean?” Trey asked, stroking my cheek.
“Usually, this place is packed, but there isn’t a soul in sight. That rarely happens, so maybe something is going our way. Let’s face it, that doesn’t happen very often,” I muttered, gazing at the dim stars.
Trey gently gripped my chin. “I can’t argue with you there. We’re both fighters, though. The world is going to have to throw a hell of a lot at us for either of us to break. You’re still one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. I know that’s probably hard for you to believe, but it’s the truth, and I don’t want you to forget it.”
As I stared into his mesmerizing gray eyes, my heart rate sped up. Being enveloped in his embrace was one of the things that gave me the courage to fight back when life pushed too hard. All those years ago, he’d been absolutely right about one thing: we were always worth fighting for.
