REVIEW:
A beautifully written story about two people living with guilt who find a way to move past the wreckage of their mistakes. Having guilt about events in their life, that they couldn’t control, has shaped them. Hunter has found a way to channel his guilt, but can’t seem to find his way out of the hurt the lies and deceit he was a part of. He didn’t do anything wrong, he just didn’t see what was in front of him and his friend, as well as himself, almost died because of it. Piper has lived with the guilt and heartbreak of of losing her best friend when she was a teenager. The last words she said to her best friend were hurtful and she is trying to honor her memory.
As they work on renovating the place where her life changed irrevocably they realize that they can’t hide from the chemistry they share. They agree to have a little relationship, but she is skittish. She is afraid to open her heart completely, but without realizing it, Hunter sneaks in. With horrible things happening to her property and threats being leveled at Piper, Hunter goes into protective mode, but she pushes at every turn.I loved the connection Hunter and Piper had. Opening up to someone else is hard, but if Piper can open up to the possibility of trusting someone and letting someone completely in, they just might find the love they both have been looking for. When one last threat almost takes one of them away for good, true love and determination might save them. Even though I figured out part of what was going on, I didn’t figure out the why, and it was a shock.
I highly recommend this book, as well as the entire series. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
